What is follower growth rate?
Also called: audience growth rate
Follower growth rate
The percentage change in an account's follower count over a period, which shows whether an audience is compounding or stalling.
Absolute follower counts reward age. Growth rate rewards momentum, which is the number that actually predicts where a brand will be next year. A 2% monthly gain on 100,000 followers is a healthier signal than a flat 3 million.
Growth is only meaningful against a known window, so any figure quoted without one should be treated as decoration. It also needs daily readings to be trustworthy. A single before-and-after pair cannot distinguish steady growth from one viral post.
How we calculate it
We compare the earliest and most recent reading we hold for an account and report the percentage change alongside the number of days it covers. Brands with only one reading show no growth figure rather than a zero.
