Average Instagram Engagement Rate for Media Brands
Measured from public profiles, not taken from an industry average. Every figure below names the number of accounts behind it.
The median for media brands is —
Not enough media brands have been measured to publish a median. The dash is deliberate: repeating somebody else’s industry average would fill the space without answering the question.
The number this page cannot give you
Engagement rate counts what happens on the brand’s own posts. It says nothing about the posts other people make: a customer photographing the product, a creator naming it in a caption, a reviewer who never tagged the account. That is a separate measurement, and for most consumer brands it is the larger one.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good Instagram engagement rate for media brands?
We have not measured enough media brands to publish a median yet. Rather than repeat an industry average from somewhere else, this page shows a dash until the readings exist.
How is engagement rate calculated here?
Interactions on recent posts against follower count, read from the public profile. It is the common definition, which matters more than the best definition: a benchmark is only useful if the number you compare against was worked out the same way as yours.
Why not use a published industry average for media brands?
Because almost none of them say what they measured. An average across an unnamed sample, of accounts of unstated size, at an unstated date, is a number you cannot check. Every figure here names the category, the count behind it and the fact that it comes from repeated readings of public profiles.
Does a low engagement rate mean the account is failing?
Not on its own, and large accounts systematically read lower: the rate has followers in the denominator, so growth pushes it down while reach goes up. The more useful question is whether people are posting about the brand at all, which is a different measurement and not one a rate can answer.
